The steps below will ensure your new faucet is ready to go in no time!

Materials:

• New faucet
• Adjustable wrenches (in different sizes)
• Rubbing alcohol or all-purpose cleaner
• Rag
• Plumber's tape

How to Replace a Bathroom Faucet:

1. Determine the type of faucet designed for your sink, which will have one, two, or three holes and be center-set or widespread.
2. Buy a new bathroom faucet that will fit your sink design.
3. Gather your materials: adjustable wrenches (one big and one small), rubbing alcohol or all-purpose cleaner, a rag, and plumber's tape.
4. To remove the old faucet, start by turning off the water supply using the valves underneath the sink
5. Clear any items stored under the sink to make the faucet parts easier to reach.
6. Place a bucket under the pipes to catch any water spills.
7. Once the water supply is off, turn on the faucet to drain any remaining water in the pipes.
8. Disconnect the hot and cold water supply lines to the faucet.
9. Remove the nuts under the sink that secure the faucet using an adjustable wrench.
10. With a bucket nearby, use a wrench to unscrew the slip nut on the P-trap pipe.
11. Disconnect the lift rod.
12. Pull up the old faucet assembly from the top until it clears the sink.
13. Clean around the faucet holes and old drain with rubbing alcohol or all-purpose cleaner and wipe with a rag.
14. Place the gasket over the faucet holes.
15. Place the flange over the drain hole in the sink and screw the tailpiece to the flange.
16. Tighten the tailpiece nut and gasket.
17. Attach the tailpiece to the P-trap and tighten with the wrench.
18. For extra security, wrap plumber's tape around the tailpiece to make it more leak resistant.
19. To install the new faucet, put the gasket on first.
20. Insert the faucet through the matching holes and tighten the nuts.
21. Attach them by hand, then tighten securely with a wrench.
22. Attach the lift rod to the drain tailpiece.
23. Reconnect the water supply lines.
24. Turn on the water using the valves underneath the sink.
25. Test the cold and hot water taps.
26. Check all of the new connections for leaks above and below the sink.

Almond bathrooms can be buuuutt-ugly, and I have no problem saying that without worrying about insulting you and your butt-ugly almond bathroom. Why? Because I have owned a butt-ugly almond bathroom, I've felt your exquisite pain. But, I will also clarify that not ALL of them are really that bad, but there are some…whoa.

And because paint is theeasiest and most affordable way to transform any space in your home, you'll want to look at some colour options before making any costly changes involving new bathroom fixtures. So, read on my almond-challenged friend!

First off, let's call it like it is and 'IT' is a light tan

You have to start treating almond as a colour – rather than a 'thing'. In my work as an Online Color Consultant, I often hear '…my almond tub, my bone coloured sink,' but when you think about it, what exactly is almond? Well, almond is a light tan-beige. And that's why it's so darned awkward! If it were a normal beige or tan, it would be dark enough to accommodate a wider range of colours (I mean, what doesn't go with tan, right?)

However, because it's a light tan it can look dirty and dated when placed with the wrong colours. But regardless, once you start treating 'almond' like a colour, you can incorporate it into a colour scheme that complements it – rather than fights with it.

The thing to remember is that there are many 'tan' tubs out there with different undertones. While one person might have a more passive, muted, almost creamy-tan, another will have one with a pink, yellow or yellow-green undertone – with yellow-green being the most COMMON undertone. What this means is that these colours aren't fool-proof with EVERY tan fixture, as there are many manufacturer finishes out there – but they sure are a great place to start!

Paint colours that work with many almond bathroom fixtures

1. Benjamin Moore Kingsport Gray HC 86

Kingsport Gray is a subtle mix of gray and brown, which means it's a greige, however, it does FAVOUR brown over gray.

While the above photo doesn't have almond fixtures, you can see how nice it would look as the countertop has some of those warm almond-inspired tones in it.

Benjamin Moore Smoked Oyster 2109-40

Smoked Oyster is a beautiful blend of purple and a warm gray/greige – a fab colour for some personality! It would be particularly beautiful with some of the travertines out there. However, if you have the yellow-green version of almond fixtures, stay far away, as the purple and yellow-green won't love each other at all! This colour really prefers the more subtle, lighter colour tan fixtures.

Benjamin Moore White Down OC 131

White Down is definitely one of my fave off-white colours as it hits the right note with many tan fixtures. Please note, your tan fixtures WILL be STRONGER than the walls, not by tons, but certainly by some, this will happen with any off-white paint colour. However, it's still a pretty and fresh combo, especially if you support it with the right bathroom decor.

• Benjamin Moore Grand Teton White (prettier in real-life than on the Ben site)

Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter HC 172

Revere Pewter is another interesting choice for an almond-inspired bathroom. If you're going for a beachy theme, this soft gray and its subtle green undertone can be enhanced with off-white towels and blue-green accents.

Above, you'll see a Kingsport Gray vanity with BM Revere Pewter walls. Revere can SOMETIMES be a wink muddy/green for some almond fixtures. You can see how they relate here when you look at the shower surround reflected in the mirror.

A few points to ponder

• You may have noticed that MOST of the above colours are not in the off-white or light range. It's just not a great idea to partner almond fixtures with a colour that's LIGHTER than them – the balance will be off and you'll risk highlighting the fixtures. The exceptions are some creams and tans, as they're warm colours and can layer better

• If you are looking for drama, warmth, interest and personality, then you could paint your walls a darker colour. However, if you don't have a great ventilation system (common in homes with almond fixtures), those dark walls might show the drips after a hot shower. Learn more about paint finishes here. Cream is more forgiving for walls that tend to drip with moisture (that stays there) after a hot shower…

• Cream will give you a lighter and brighter look and allow you the opportunity to accent with browns, blacks and earth-tones. However, with varying shades of almond/bone out there, it can be tricky to find the one that works just right (not all bones were created equal…wink wink). Paint Colours that DO NOT Work with Almond Fixtures

White

White or off-white walls will only accent the almond-nessity of your tub and white will make the almond look dirty.

Pink, rose, peach

Any version, whether it's light, medium or dark will look terrible with almond.

Almost any colour that is 'lighter' than the almond colour

Other than a small range of creams, most colours in that range will make almond look dirtier than it is.

Blue and green

These colours can be touch and go in a bathroom.While you can humour some blue/grays or green/grays, be careful that you aren't contrasting too much with the warm tones of your fixtures.

And remember, there are other things to consider in your bathroom, such as your countertop, flooring, exposure and of course, your PERSONAL taste! Be sure that the colour you choose satisfies as many of those as possible.
